Gordon Parks Elementary School is nestled in the neighborhoods near the University of Kansas Hospital, near State Line in Kansas City. The building is over 100 years old and is home to 300 students, kindergarten through 4th grade. For this project, we partnered with Kirsten Lipari-Braman (Chief Executive Officer of the school) for two different murals. After touring the school, spending time with the faculty, and seeing the young students we knew the right person for these murals was Scribe! His work with children’s hospitals and his style would soon bless these school’s walls.

The mural on the exterior wall was painted on old and weathered bricks, with art inspired by the students and with a message of persevering through difficult situations.

The mural inside the school’s gym shows their massive school mascot bursting through the wall! The idea for the mascot started with the students and then Scribe took their Lion to another level!
